Mocking!

They're here. Oh man. I can hear one right now. Please don't come any closer Please don't come any closer Please don't come any closer

Many a male mockingbirdhave begun their yearly search for love. I quote from mockingbirds.org: Both sexes sing, but females sing much less. Female Mockingbirds are attracted to males who can make more sounds. Unmated males sing more than mated ones. And they stop singing when they pair up.

So if there is a lonely male living in a tree next to your bedroom, I feel for you.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Sunday we went to Angelino Heights -- a neighborhood I didn't know existed in LA. LA is funny that way. I don't think she means to hide her jewels, they just get lost in all the clutter.

Here is an example of the fabulousness on Carroll Ave.:

On the next block over was this:

Seriously, I used to loathe LA, but then realized it was all in my mind. I love it here.

Airbus A380 at LAX

I went down to LAX this morning with a few thousand other people to watch the Airbus A380 land. I met Will Campbell there on his bike. Will writes for one of my favorite websites/blogs: Metroblogging Los Angeles. Fun to meet him in person and geek out about this big old jet airliner. FUN way to start the week.

How was it? It was HUGE. My video doesn't do it justice so I luckily had done a rehearsal shoot with a SouthWest 737 for comparison.

I "borrowed" this image from the LA Times website and photographer Al Seib of the plane just touching down on 24R. Check out all the specators in the background:

For graphic comparison I found this on Wikipedia (thanks Alex!).
(Clem Tillier created this image and I'm using it under the Creative Commons Deed.)

Before the plane came, Lincoln Blvd. was closed off in the northbound direction and the Bomb Squad was called in for some reason...

And the In-N-Out right there was doing land office business at 8am.

Kamaboko

I was at the Japanese market on Centinela in Mar Vista, just having happy childhood memory flashbacks. (click to make it bigger)

Mmmmmm. Kamaboko. Fish cake. Mmmmmm.

I wish you could still buy the slippers...

LA Courier

I got a package delivered to me by a local LA courier. It was a young woman at the door, somewhat unusual. As I was signing she said, "Brown looks awesome on you." I said thanks very much, that was a nice thing to say and she said "Girlfriends gotta stick together!" and she left.

Seriously, I love LA.
