More Safety Graphics!

While hanging with my sister on her third chemo treatment (halfway there!), we ate lunch outside the clinic and there was this electrical box with this graphic on it:

I like the little dude needing lots of space to stick the pole into the electrical box. What is up with that?

Later we went to Costco and I saw this in the egg cooler:

Last week we spent the day after Thanksgiving at the beach (as you saw in the last post) and this was posted at the spot where you go down to the sand:

Thanksgiving Up North

"Up North" refers to Northern California, between Santa Cruz and Monterey. We had a big group share Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant where my niece works (we had prime rib and look how happy Mr. I Don't Like Thanksgiving Food is!)

But the weekend was really about the crab boil at the beach that my sister organized. And we could not have asked for a more gorgeous day. There were friends and family, shrimp and crab, crackers and dip, cookies and pies, surfing and volleyball.

The day ended with a gorgeous sunset.

Best Wii Quote

As a bit of background, me and my family are pretty square...

So, we are at my sister's for Thanksgiving and there are other friends here too. We brought our Wii with us and one friend said to her brother, "Julia and Kurt brought Wii." And her brother said, "Really? They brought weed?"

Suicide Squirrels

I read this news article today:

ASHLAND, Wis. - It was an unlucky day for two squirrels and hundreds of Midwestern power customers. Brian Elwood, a spokesman for Xcel Energy, said a squirrel came in contact with an overhead transformer and knocked out service to 177 customers Monday. Power was fully restored in just under an hour, and repair crews found the remains of the "unfortunate squirrel," he said.

By coincidence, another squirrel got into a substation 40 miles away in Ironwood, Mich., Monday morning and caused a temporary outage that affected about 1,400 customers in Ironwood and two nearby communities, Elwood said.

The utility takes many preventive steps to keep the curious animals away from lines, he said, but they are one of the leading causes of outages, trailing only severe weather.

"We kind of liken it to anyone who's had a bird feeder and tried to keep the squirrels out," he said. "They find a way."

Coincidence? I think not.

Since our current security threat level is at "elevated" I believe it must be Al Qaeda Squirrel Sleeper Cells.

And the government wants to keep us in the dark about it.

Sure, they look cute:

But don't be fooled.

School Spirit

Longhorn
Kurt grew up in Texas, first in Houston, then later the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, then he moved to the oasis of culture known as Austin and attended University of Texas. (See logo above.) I know all this. What I didn't know until this year was something about the cheerleaders at UT. Kurt was not really that into football but if the Longhorns are playing, he'll have a gander. We were watching one day and they cut to a shot of the cheerleaders. Kurt said, in a quiet, mock cheerleader voice, "Ya'll fight! Ya'll win!"

I turned to him and said, "What the heck was that?!" And he explained that this is what they say on game day. I just about peed my pants.

Now whenever we watch football -- Cowboys too, naturally -- we give a soft Texas drawl "Ya'll fight!"

PS. Hook 'em Horns!
PPS. Name the school mascot, without looking it up, win a prize. (Kurt, you are not eligible to win, sorry.)

Love My Swiffer Duster!

Picture_1

Our house has been covered in plaster dust for days and days so it was really time to dust. Oh, and we don't do much "intense" cleaning in our lives. Bathrooms, kitchen, vacuuming? Check. Dusting? Not so much. But this little tool is my new best friend.

Is this thing in any way good for the environment? Probably not (it's made by Proctor and Gamble) but I'm sure it's good for our immediate environment and I doubt it was tested on animals.

The Plaster Guys are here

Laundrypatches_2
The plaster team is here to patch the holes left by the plumber (as planned) and now the house is full of dust again. The cats are peeved because they are stuck in the bedroom and I'm sure they feel they are being punished. Oh well.

After the plaster has dried and all is well, then we will pick paint color for the pantry to match the floor tiles we are getting from MiYO Flooring. On the Shared Designs page you can see our designs for each part of the kitchen. First there is "striped checkerboard" for the pantry/laundry room. Then there is "random flowers" for the kitchen area.

Miyo was the only modern, fun, do-it yourself flooring we could find for a budget. The stuff at Home Depot and elsewhere is so ugly. We already have ugly floors and we want fun/cool/not expensive. Looking forward to them coming.
