Mystery Spot!

Harper got to go to the Mystery Spot! It's a fabulous place in Santa Cruz, California, truly one of those wacky Americana places that are on every "Must See!" list for family roadtrips. Right up there with Largest Ball of Twine and The Corn Palace

We went to Santa Cruz to visit family and friends last weekend and had a lovely time. (More on that in a later post.)

Yesterday, Harper brought home this drawing from preschool and I said, "Tell me about this drawing." And she said, "It's the Mystery Spot!"

OMG. It totally is.

Independence Day

I have been a faithful Facebook user. However, I am not pleased with that any more. It's been like a drug after the election, seeing a lot of posts flying about what's going on. However, I let myself spend way too much time browsing mindlessly. It takes away from productive time in my day and it is a bad habit I am going to break. Also, I miss blogging and am woefully behind on this very blog.

There is a 5 year plan of my own making that I have committed to. It started in May of this year and will conclude in May of 2022. (Or sooner or later depending on how successful I am at achieving the various goals I'm setting for myself.) If you want to know what that plan is, you are more than welcome to ask me next time we are together. Suffice to say it runs the gamut from the career side to the creative side to the long term "retirement" sides of life.

I'll be spending more time on this blog and on my other endeavors. Please come by and visit often!

Things Harper Says - 5.5 Year Old Edition

Harper has two phrases that I just love right now. Instead of saying "For real" she will say "For real life!" For example, she will say: 'Mama, Lila got to chew bubble gum after lunch - for real life!" Or "Papa, the cat ran outside, for real life!"

I also love it when she asks me questions and starts it off with "Mama, did you know? The Cat chased the bird!" But it's where she places the up-tone of the question. Usually one would say: "Did you know that ice cream is a fun summer treat?" and make the up-tone of the question at the end of the whole sentence. But Harper puts that emphasis on Did you know? There is something quite adorable about that. So earnest.

Yesterday, driving to preschool she said:
Mama, can I tell you something?

{She borrowed this phrase from me as I use it to start a serious conversation with her, mostly in a positive way to get her attention. As in "Harper, can I tell you something? I saw how you made your bed and put your clothes away all by yourself today, good job!!" followed by hugs and kisses.}

So she said in a very serious tone:

Mama? Can I tell you something?
Yes Harper
Sometimes kids go to Chuck E Cheese.

{Me chuckling}

Yes they do Harper.
